While I am usually not short on things to say, the attack in Orlando has truly left me at a loss for words. First, I pray for all of those affected by this cowardly act. I pray for the families and friends of those killed, I pray for the survivors, I pray they are able to heal and be lifted up in this time of grief and loss.
This is not a political issue. This is not a gun control issue. This is not a hate crime. This is terrorism. This is a human issue. This is hate. This is radical Islam. What I also pray for is that we do not fail to see this act for what it is: an act of terrorism carried out on our soil, in our home. ISIS and their deranged followers are not using large scale 9/11 tactics to kill Americans. They are focusing on smaller areas, but still managing to create mass casualties. Orlando is the deadliest terrorist attack since 9/11, and this coward did not crash any planes, he didn’t take down any buildings. He walked into an unsuspecting, innocent crowd and opened fire, creating mass chaos and fear. Much like the San Bernardino shooters. ISIS is operating on creating fear in order to give them power. Their moves on our soil are unpredictable, thus making us think twice before heading to a sporting event, a nightclub, a concert, even a movie.
One thing is for certain. We are at war. We are at war with the radical Islamists whose only goal is to take lives of innocent Americans. We are at war with ISIS because they hate this free land, they hate our nation under God. But another thing that is for certain is that we must not cower. We must not submit to their tactics. We must be aware of their cowardly ways and their wishes to harm us, harm our families, and we must not be afraid. Fear gives them power. And no one can intimidate us, no one will gain power over the leader of the free world using this approach. We must demand that our government protect us, that they make sure known potential terrorists cannot legally get their hands on guns. We must make them see that taking guns from innocent Americans isn’t going to solve this problem. We must stand united and strong. America will not be scared of ISIS. We will not cower in fear of their spineless acts of terror. We will call a spade a spade, forget political correctness, and recognize these radical Islamists for what they are.
It is time for America to stand together. Today we are not democrat or republican. We are not black or white, gay or straight. We are American. We all mourn with Orlando and we will be proud, stand strong, and not waiver in our patriotism to this great nation. We will let our enemy know they will not defeat us, we will be victorious. We will be courageous, and we will fight for the country we love. Today we are united as one, to make sure ISIS knows that we are not afraid. We have faith in our great nation under God, and despite our differences we all have one thing in common. We are all American.
